Usona Institute

Usona Institute is a major nonprofit psychedelic research organization based in Madison, Wisconsin. Usona conducts FDA-registered Phase 2 and Phase 3 clinical trials of synthetic psilocybin (Psilocybin USONA-1) for major depressive disorder and other indications. The institute's nonprofit structure is a deliberate counterweight to the for-profit psychedelic biotech sector — Usona aims to keep psilocybin as accessible as possible if and when FDA approval occurs. The institute also produces high-purity synthetic psilocybin used by other research institutions worldwide. Usona's MDD program is among the most advanced clinical psilocybin programs not run by a publicly-traded company.
