About Sacred Garden Community
Sacred Garden Community is the Oakland-based sacramental church founded by Bob Otis — the founding chairperson of Oakland's first successful 'Decriminalize Nature' initiative, which created the legal space for Oakland churches like Zide Door to operate. Sacred Garden operates on a 'Principle of Least Dogma' — minimum shared belief for community cohesion while permitting maximum theological diversity. Skye Weir-Mathews serves as Executive Director. Otis also co-founded the Sacred Plant Alliance and serves as Board Chair of the Alma Institute. The community emphasizes interfaith syncretic practice, spiritual leadership development, and 40+ years of intentional family lineage.
